Elevator and Escalator Services

All elevators on campus are equipped with telephones that connect directly to campus security. Pressing the call button will connect you with the security desk. From a ROLM phone, dial 99; other phones, (212) 854-5555.

Columbia University Facilities contracts with outside companies to provide elevator and escalator repair services. Maintenance and repair of these systems is a common cost (nonchargeable) service provided to most Morningside academic and administrative departments.

Chargeable?

Maintain and repair elevators, lifts, dumbwaiters, and escalators.

No

Conduct safety checks required by New York City Code and ANSI standards.

Provide UAH, Faculty House, Dining Services, with maintenance service.

Install, upgrade, or repair departmentally dedicated systems, and systems in IRE, Faculty House, Dining Services.

Yes

Provide exclusive use and/or operators for special events.

Provide additional and/or dedicated keys for elevator control panels.

Fee
Maintenance and repair of vertical transportation systems is a common cost (nonchargeable) service provided to most Morningside academic and administrative departments. EXCEPTIONS ARE:

  • University Apartment Housing (UAH)
  • Residence Halls (RH)
  • Faculty House
  • Dining Services

For these latter departments, CU Facilities pays the elevator service company directly and then bills-back the departments via an IDI (Interdepartmental Invoice) for services specific to their areas.

Fees are based on the type of service provided and the size/type of vertical transportation system.
