Overview

Parking at the Morningside Heights and Manhattanville campuses is a scarce resource.  The CUF Parking Office is responsible for managing the 24-hour and commuter parking spaces that are assigned by the University Parking Committee.  Residential Finance & Parking oversees parking applications, billing and policy enforcement and  and manages the regular operation of Univesity parking facilities at the  Morningside Heights and Manhattanville campuses and at the Arbor.  The full text of the Morningside Heights Campus Parking Policy can be found on the University's Administrative Policy Library Web site or obtained from the CUF Office of Residential Finance and Parking.

Parking at the Medical Center campus is managed by the CUMC Facilities Parking Office


Eligibility for University Parking

Parking at the Morningside, Manhattanville, and Arbor garages is governed by the Morningside Campus Parking Policy; the below provides a summary of the key eligibity criteria detailed in the policy.  For information regarding parking at the Medical Center campus, please contact the CUMC Facilities Parking Office.

24-hour Parking
Morningside Garages
Fulll-time Columbia faculty and administrators Grade 14 and above who live north of West 96th Street and south of West 145th Street or who live in University housing in Manhattan outside those boundaries are eligible to apply for University 24-hour parking in the Morningside garages.  

Arbor Garage
All residents of the Arbor, including post-doctoral officers of research and graduate students, are eligible for parking in the Arbor Garage.

Commuter Parking 
Full-time Columbia faculty, adjunct Columbia faculty, and administrators Grade 14 and above who reside outside Manhattan are eligible to apply for University commuter parking.

Parking for Barnard College, Teachers College, and other Affiliated Institutions
Parking is not available for affiliates of Barnard College, Teachers College, and other affiliated institutions except for Barnard College faculty currently residing in Columbia University housing.

Parking for Columbia Students
24-hour parking at the Arbor Garage is available for all residents of that building, including students.  Parking in Morningside garages is not available for Columbia students except those enrolled in evening and Saturday classes, who may park from 4 pm to 11 pm on weekdays and from 8 am to 6 pm on Saturdays on class days only.  A current class schedule must be provided.  For an application, click here.

Parking Applications

The Parking Committee meets the second Monday of every month to review 24-hour and commuter parking requests.  Applicants assigned parking spaces are notified within 3 business days of the meeting.  For more information about the parking assignment process, click here.  For an application, click here.

Parking Alternatives

Parking is generally available in private commercial garages in the vicinity of the Morningside Heights campus.  For a list of garages, click here.

Daily Parking

As per University policy, the primary use of the limited space in the Morningside garages is to provide regular parking for eligible faculty, and after they have been accomodated, senior administrators, and accordingly daily parking is extremely limited during the academic year, particularly on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.  When available, a $15 daily charge applies.
